Recently, upon entering the production workshop of Fujian Dushi Wood Industry Co., Ltd., more than 1,200 frontline workers were working overtime to rush export orders. In the first quarter of 2022, with smart manufacturing as the main direction, Dushi Wood Industry invested more than 50 million yuan to customize, test, and install the country's first automated and intelligent timber selection scanner, realizing four-sided identification of wood and automatic material selection, eliminating manual identification steps and making the process not only more efficient but also more precise.
Chairman Du Jinxiang pointed to the scanner display and did the math for the reporter: the original selection equipment was not accurate enough in identification, so wood was not fully utilized. The scanner scans and analyzes knots and defects in the timber fed into the machinery, breaks down the proportion of usable material, and achieves maximum timber utilization. Through this technology,with the number of workers on the production line reduced from more than 50 to 17, the accuracy rate of timber identification increased from about 80 percent to 99 percent, and timber utilization improved by more than 8. percent. This one item alone saves the company more than 7. million yuan a year. In addition to stock preparation, at Dushi Wood Industry the technical transformation to improve material utilization runs through the entire process and full cycle of every procedure on the production line. Taking the multi-blade saw as an example, in the past, producing a wooden board 1.8. centimeters thick required reserving 2.1. centimeters of timber, which meant 0.3. centimeters of wood was wasted.
